Las Vegas, Nevada -- April 15th, 1991 -- Today at the National Association of
Broadcasters show, NewTek launched a stand-alone Mac-compatible Video Toaster
system. The new $3995 Video Toaster is a complete solution for broadcast
quality video production at a revolutionary price.
"This new Video Toaster system is the flagship product we've been working
towards," comments Paul Montgomery, NewTek's Vice President, "It makes the
complete Toaster system price less expensive and opens up many new channels of
distribution." The new Video Toaster is file format compatible with many
popular Mac programs. Users can now bring elements from existing Macintosh
graphics programs into the Toaster, where sophisticated digital effects can be
applied in real time, resulting in network quality video productions. Macintosh
3D software can also export 3D objects into the Toaster's powerful rendering
and animation software for full broadcast quality output.
At the launch, over 25 software and hardware developers announced products for
the new Video Toaster. "We are excited by the flood of high quality developers
that are working on innovative products for the Video Toaster" says Mark
Randall, NewTek's Director of Marketing, "The Video Toaster is now clearly the
standard for desktop video production." The Toaster is already in use at
television networks, local affiliate stations, video production houses, and
cable companies. "We are very excited about using this new equipment," said
Frank Henson of MTV Networks, "The quality is excellent. With this technology
it is possible for just about anyone to produce broadcast quality video images
and graphics at a reasonable cost."
The Video Toaster is the world's first desktop television studio. It allows
virtually anyone to produce videos that have the effects and graphics quality
of network television. The Video Toaster's unprecedented price of $3995 is made
possible by new technology invented at NewTek and incorporated into special
custom chips which perform real-time video manipulation. Over four years in
development, the Video Toaster is a complete system including powerful software
for video switching, digital video effects, character generation, color
processing, 3D animation, and paint graphics.
